When selling your home in the winter months some extra care might need to take place to make sure your property show’s in it’s best condition to potential buyers. It’s no surprise that spring is of course the best time to sell a home but sometimes a seller might not have a choice and needs to sell their home asap. The positive side of things is that although winter may not be the most desirable time to list a home for sale, buyers now have technology at their finger tips that makes home searching during any season a breeze. Another benefit to listing your home in the winter months is that the competition is light, many sellers know that listing a home during spring is the best time so many hold off till that time to sell their homes.
Make your home accessible
Due to California’s mild climate many areas don’t get snow but for our friends that do get the blistery weather, here’s some things to thing about. Make sure all walkways, driveways and sidewalks are clear of snow and ice. Walk around your home if you’re in a climate that gets snow be sure to clear off any areas that might be a potential hazard for buyers walking around the area. If you have steps outside the home be sure to clear those of any snow and ice as well. In general it’s a good idea to clear these areas when they do become covered because you don’t know when you might get a showing and if you have to do all that last-minute it may become a larger task.
Successful Tips for Selling Your Home in the Winter Months
Make the home warm and toasty
Walking into a cold home can immediately turn off a buyer, especially if it’s wet and cold outside. Warm homes have souls and when you walk into a cold empty house it just gives off a bad vibe. Remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression so make sure the home is as inviting as possible when the potential buyer arrives. If you’re selling a vacation home or a home that is not currently occupied, ask your Realtor to make sure the heat is set at a comfortable setting at all times.
Showcase your winter features
There’s nothing better than having a nice warm fire when it’s cold outside. Imagine walking into a home when it’s cold and snowy outside and arriving inside a nice warm home that has a fire going. These are the first impressions that matter, buyers often make their decision with they see themselves and their family enjoying the winter months hanging out by the fire. After all that’s what makes memories right! Be cautious when using a fireplace though, you’ll want to make sure that the fireplace has been recently serviced and is in appropriate condition for a fire.
